Teacher wears bodysuit to teach human anatomy

Students weren't sure what to expect when their teacher stood in front of the classroom and started to undress

Debby Heerkens, a gym and biology teacher at Groene Hart Rijnwoude school, in the small town of Hazerswoude Dorp, Netherlands, wanted to try a creative approach to teach a lesson about the human body.

"At first they were a little bit in shock because they thought 'the teacher is taking off her clothes,' until, they saw what was underneath," Heerkens told CNN.

She stripped down to reveal a full suit that mapped out the human body in sharp and graphic detail. Heerkens had on several layers, one that showed the skeletal bone structure and another that featured the internal organs.

The point was to help students visualize the complex anatomy of the human body, while also highlighting its essential organs.

Heerkens' outfit shows the details of the human skeleton.

After teaching for seven years, Heerkens felt a need to be more creative with some of her lesson plans to keep her students engaged. She typically tries to incorporate books and interactive tools when tackling dense topics.

This was the first time Heerkens suited up in a costume to teach a class. She said the results were positive, but doesn't think she'll be using the same approach for every science lesson.
